What I dont understand is how so much water got into the car. The only two possibilities I can think of are: 1) Fuel flap seal is failing and water than tracks along the wire and through the seal. I don't buy that. 2) The wiring seals for the light custer are at fault, but the water is not following the cluster wiring but finding another path

Posted January 13, 2013. This is a common MK1 Focus fault, the wiring in the rubber conduit between the roof and the hatch get brittle and snap after flexing continually. The wires will need patching as water gets into them and causes the shorting. A break will be very obvious as the wires will be too flexible.
Asked on 16 February 2013 by AB, via email. Answered by Honest John. Via the cabin vents situated behind the sides of the rear bumpers. They are supposed to vent through one-way flaps, but if the flaps fail then water splashed up against them is admitted to the car. Tags: water ingress leaks.
